Little Tweak, Big Results When Setting Goals

What if there were a little tweak you could make that would create MASSIVE results. Would you want to know what it was?

What if it’s so small… and so subtle… that when I share it with you… perhaps the first thing your mind would think is “That’s so simple…” and because of that… your mind may want to discredit the power of this tool.

Would you be willing and open to a simple… small… tweak that could create MASSIVE results? Successful people have open minds.

And they don’t over complicate things. So if your answer is yes to keeping an open mind and valuing simple things… keep reading.

Here’s the one tweak that is so small… yet can change everything.

Instead of making your goals/desires/outcomes vague… make them specific.

So many times I ask people what they want… and a few things usually happen.

1. They lead with what they DON’T want.

2. They don’t know what they DO want.

3. If they do know what they want… they are SUPER vague about it.

So… the shift is…

Focus on what you DO want… and be specific about it.

Instead of saying “I don’t want to be broke.”

Don’t just say “I want more abundance.”

WTF does that even mean?

Be specific: I want to create an income of at least $10,000 per month by October 1st, 2017. It requires critical thinking to get specific.

Do you want an “authentic” relationship?

How will you know it’s authentic?

Or, do you want a relationship where you can share your deepest truths and disclose your deepest thoughts and your partner lovingly listens and empathizes with you?

Using words like “abundance” or “authentic” or “highest potential” is good when describing a concept… but not a GOAL.

GOAL’s must be CLEAR and SPECIFIC. And stated in the POSITIVE and PRESENT tense.

And… GOALS must be stated in such a way that it is CLEAR and you will know when you have achieved your goal. This ONE tweak can change everything.

Maybe… just maybe you aren’t getting what you want because you don’t know what you want… and you aren’t describing it in a clear way.

Here’s the truth: you know what you want.

You’ve been vague because declaring what you want is scary… or maybe you don’t feel worthy.

Either way… knock that off 🙂

And… let’s get CLEAR/SPECIFIC and POSITIVE/PRESENT tense.

AND – make sure to add the “by when.”

A goal without a deadline is a future regret.

How can you be clear/specific/positive/present and create a deadline with your goals?

Today I’m writing you from the island of Maui.

We’re here for our last scheduled Maui Enter the Heart Retreat.

In many ways, it’s the end of an era. Last week was a recharge week after an amazing Claim Your Power LIVE event in Los Angeles.

As I contemplate the upcoming Enter the Heart Retreat – and the fact that it’s the last one we currently are planning on doing in Maui, I can’t help but think back to our first Enter the Heart Retreat in 2012 – which was also in Maui.

During the past five years, the business has grown, changed, pivoted and expanded in ways I couldn’t see coming.

And, upon review, it’s been amazing to watch the evolution of the business.

It was a hard decision to decide to put a hold on all future Maui Enter the Heart Retreats, but there was a new idea coming through – the business demanded it.

And, even though letting Maui go (for now) was a hard decision, thinking to the future is exciting (though not 100% clear).

That’s what growth feels like.

You’ve got to be willing to let go of what you’ve been doing in order to allow space and room for something new to enter.

And that’s what I want to talk to you about today – letting go of what’s old, not working and what needs to be released.

Sure, it might be comfortable… all that holding on… but it’s not creating growth.

Over and over again, the call of the spirit, of inspiration of what wants to be born through you is asking you to surrender and give up what you know and embrace the unknown.

It’s not a one-time thing.

It’s not a once a decade thing.

Letting go… surrendering… is a daily… even moment by moment choice.

The question we are being asked over and over again is…

“Are you willing to let go of the familiar and trust the unknown space of an uncertain future?”

If it’s time for you to let go of a job that doesn’t serve you… can you do it and trust?

If it’s time for you to let go of a relationship that doesn’t serve you… can you do it and trust?

If it’s time to let go of an unhealthy habit that doesn’t serve you… can you do it and trust?

Over and over again… letting go of what we know… and letting in what we are unsure of is the name of the game.

You don’t get what you “attract” in life.

You get what you choose and anticipate.

So as you let go, can you choose better feeling outcomes, can you choose into healthy situations… can you anticipate that as you do all your needs will be met (in expected and unexpected ways).

And… can you do this… right now… and again… right now… and again and again in each moment.

You see, when you let go of what is…. you allow yourself to be who you’re meant to be.

And – a day will come where you will realize that letting go is indeed the best way to hold on.

Today… who or what are you ready to let go of?

And… what positive outcome will you choose into and anticipate ahead?

Reply back and let me know.

Procrastination: This Is How To Turn The Tables And Finish

There’s no better feeling than a project that’s complete. It’s like saying “Take that procrastination!”

There’s that sense of self-respect.

That sense of accomplishment.

That earned sense of self-respect and self-esteem.

Whatever you want to achieve in your life – there’s one thing that’s gotta happen.

You’ve got to finish it.

One imperfectly finished project is better than 100 half done.

If you don’t learn how to finish – you’ll never live your highest potential.

If you don’t set your sights to finish, then you erode your self-esteem and self-trust.

Not finishing increases stress and is a major cause of overwhelm.

Yesterday I shared with you how to overcome being paralyzed and ignite your purpose. That blog will get you started if you don’t know how to go from unstuck to momentum FAST.

Today I’m going to share with you how to go from momentum to sustained momentum to finished.

It’s a simple concept I’m going to share with you. It is elegant, and it is powerful. But don’t think it’s easy. Simple and easy are not the same thing.

There are just four decisions you need to make to finish.

These are strategic and valuable decisions that will powerfully move you forward.

So make them, take them to heart and watch the awesomeness that follows.

Four Decisions That Turn The Tables On Procrastination:

1. Decide what your ideal outcome is (positively, clearly and in present tense).

2. Decide to take CIA (Courageous Imperfect Action) until you achieve your outcome. BTW – yesterday was the best time to start, so you’ll have to settle for now!

3. Decide to pay attention to the feedback you are getting without taking it personally.

4. Decide to analyze the feedback you are getting and consistently change your approach and be flexible until you produce your ideal outcome (or something better).

Committing to these decisions will change the game.

Make four decisions? Simple.
Living them? That’s where the rubber meets the road.

When you find a cause that’s greater than you, it makes it easier to commit.

When you link positive outcome and curiosity with these decisions, it brings about rapid change.

Deep down you know that you are a finisher. Deep down you know there is more for you to bring forward into the world. Deep down you know that it’s time to bring your decisions into the present moment. Deep down you know that perfectionism and/or procrastination are killing your dreams.

Deep down you know that you can change everything…

Right now.

It’s time to turn the tables on procrastination and become a finisher.

In the comments below, commit to making these decisions for yourself today. Share why. Tell me how this feels. And tell me what outcome you are committed to (clearly and in the positive/present tense).

When you comment below, you take the first step to making the invisible… visible.

Let’s take that step together today. Right now.
